Hi Parents!

While we excitedly await the many changes that will be occurring in Washington, and changes in our daily lives, we need to remain ever-diligent about how those changes will affect our Children with learning disabilities and the fulfillment of our child’s IEP in the school.

The election brought many changes and among those was the lack of mill-levy funding to many schools throughout the nation. This will mean inevitable cutbacks on staff and services within the districts, and unfortunately, some of those cuts will happen in many Special Education departments. Many teachers will be forced to add more students to their contact sheets and classrooms, not only regular education kids but special education kids that require services. Some services may be provided by personnel that are not highly trained or qualified, in an effort to cut back on higher paid specialists.

Now is the time for parents to be more aware of what is happening in your child’s school.

* Make sure you request an IEP (Individual Education Plan) team meeting to refresh and ensure that all your child’s needs are provided and who is providing those services.
* Hold the school accountable for providing the highest quality goals for your child, not matter what the cost.
* Help the school with creative ways to fund your child’s needs…..maybe an out-sourced provider or specialist that could provide the same services at a reduced rate for the school.

You must do the best you can to monitor the situation and the services that your child is receiving.

* Visit the school and sit in on class to observe the activities, and be sure to have a lunch-date with your child occasionally. This is a great time to observe the surroundings.
* Make sure that you know each providers’ name, email and phone number and give them your contact information.
* Ask them if there is anything you can do to insure that your child is receiving all the services on the IEP. This is also a good way to make sure that the teacher knows what your child should be receiving.
* Stay aware of what is happening in your child’s school and always keep the lines of communication open with teachers and other parents. They are your best source of information.

If you feel that your child is not thriving or achieving as expected, don’t wait for the next IEP meeting. You have the right to request a meeting at any time. Follow protocol and send your request to the Special Education teacher and the Principle in writing.

Don’t hesitate to ask a friend, family member or doctor to attend with you if you don’t want to go alone.

Be diligent in this time of sacrifice and cutbacks and protect the rights of your child’s IEP. Child educational advocacy is still the number one goal!

Looking for the best online degree program around but don’t know where to start? There isn’t exactly a straight answer to that question as your needs and priorities for picking out the right one varies with the person sitting next to you. The US News releases what it calls “The Top 100 American Colleges” but in this situation, what exactly should you look for to get the best degree program?

The most obvious reason why students opt for higher online education programs is that they don’t have the time to get a degree using traditional schooling methods; may be because of their working schedule or other commitments like family responsibilities etc. So, what should you do to find the best online degree program?

Step 1: Find out what you already know

Decide whether you already have in mind the best online degree program that you want to pursue.

Step 2: Find out your purpose

Decide if it is for the career you’re looking after taking that degree or the kind of money you can take home after or if it is the kind of college life you’re interested in like online parties, sports and so on.

Step 3: Funnel your options

Check the accreditation of the institution offering the degree. Of course, you’d want something legal and solid when you shell out your money, guts and brains. Also, you can narrow down your list once you’ve already decided which program to take as not all educational institutions offer will offer the online accredited degrees%that you’re looking for.

Step 4: Making that decision

The next step would be to scrutinize the offers out there by preparing a list of criteria of what you need in choosing the best online degree program. Are you after the school’s academic excellence? Do you like the courses they’re offering? Do you have particular professors you’d want to study under? Do you like the method of teaching the school is offering?

Step 5: Compare and contrast

With the criteria at hand, you can easily pick out and list the best candidates for your online degree. Take time to research on each school or institution to have a better grasp of what they can offer and compare it with the others. Don’t just glaze over what online advertisements can provide to you but check out each one’s own website. (For example, don’t be too trusting with colleges that don’t even have their own website.)

You can even make a chart out of the data that you have gathered to better contrast each college from each other and weigh your options. You’re chart may look like this:

College A
College B
College C
College D

Academic Reputation

Cost

Relevant Classes

Technology

You can then easily use a scale like from 1-5 or to 10 to further narrow the list and spot the best online degree program for you.

In 1806 a man named Noah Webster published Websters dictionary.  His work became so widely used that people began referring to all dictionaries as Websters dictionary.

Websters Dictionary

Noah Webster who eventually created Websters dictionary was born in 1758 in Hartford.  His family had lived there since colonial times.  His father who lived from 1722-1813 was a farmer.  He was a descendant of Connecticut Governor John Webster.  Noah’s mother could trace her roots back to the governor of Plymouth colony.

When Noah was 16 he began attending Yale College.  At this time America was fighting against Britian for freedom.  He served in the Connecticut militia which could have gotten him killed, thus stopping Websters dictionary before it had ever been started.

When he was 20 Webster wanted to earn a law degree.  He taught school to earn money for his education.  He soon grew tired of the legal profession.  So he returned to teaching.  He set up small schools that didn’t do well.

In 1789 he marred a fairly prominent woman.  Despite being welcome by the upper class, he wasn’t wealthy.  Alexander Hamilton loaned him $1500 to begin a newspaper in New York.  While in New York he took an interest in publishing.  This was the true beginning of his path to Websters dictionary.  He published text books while writing for his newspaper.  In 1898 he served a term in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

Websters Dictionary

He realized the conditions in the schools were poor.  Students of different ages were packed into overcrowded rooms.  Teachers didn’t know very much about teaching.  There weren’t many supplies.  Webster decided that American children should learn from American books.  He addressed this by publishing three volumes for children – a reader, a grammar book and a spelling book.  He believed the English language needed to be rescued from English grammar that was too difficult and outdated.  He held that the language should come from the people rather than being dictated to them.

This was the source of Websters dictionary.  He revised the dictionary again and again.  Webster’s name and works were sold to the Merriam brothers after Noah’s death.  Today most dictionaries use the term Webster because it’s so well known.

Now you know the history of Websters dictionary.

Leadership Definitions And More

I must say something truly relevant“Learning about Leadership has come to be a global matter”.

In almost every country of the northern and southern hemispheres you are able to catch people taking notes about Leadership.

Becoming a Leader is as world wide extended as breathing in and out. It’s undeniably just another human activity.

But, What does it mean to lead?

What do you think of the following affirmations and questions?

Leadership is about making things happen, To Lead is about achieving all sorts of goals, Leadership is about “touching” people. Do You have any idea when and how to do that? Are you in a position to make people do things? Do You know when and how to lead? How to transform yourself in a leader? Can You achieve goals? Do You know how to inspire a bunch of guys and have them help you to reach your objectives?.

Undoubtedly this kind of thinking was the engine that helped Kenneth Valenzuela, a Software Engineer from Chile to build BeALeader.Net to investigate about leading. In the words of Valenzuela BeALeader.Net is dedicated to become the “starting point” for hundreths of millions whose only access to “reading material” is the Internet.

While surfing around the site something grabbed my attention. I’m talking about the idea that Constant Learning is the main component on the recipe to be a leader. This website is nothing but a proof that students around the world is becoming aware of the big challenges of this century.

You might think you know a lot about the subject I invite you to check out the following definitions that I’ve collected from BeALeader.Net. Anyway, I think there’s a dozen definitions in the website. You can check them in Leadership Definitions if you want.

The 4 favourite definitions were:

  • “Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal”. (Northouse, 2004)
  • “Leadership is the behavior of an individual… directing the activities of a group toward a shared goal”. (Hemphill & Coons, 1957)
  • “Leadership is the ability to step outside the culture… to start evolutionary change processes that are more adaptive” (E.H. Schein, 1992)
  • “Leadership is the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization…” (House et al., 1999)

If you want to further your education in one of the world’s best universities in Japan you will be required to pass the Japanese Languages Proficiency Test or JLPT.

The JLPT is a test that assesses how confident and capable a non Japanese native speaker is in written and spoken Japanese,. The JLPT assesses a person ability to confidently speak and also read and write in Japanese.

The JLPT is held globally every year in the month of December. There are four stages that you need to pass, starting at level 4 being the easiest and moving upto level 1 the most challenging. In order to pass levels 2 through 4 you must get a 60% mark, however level one requires a 70% mark. Make sure that you don’t take the JLPT too lightly as many do and are sadly dissapointed when they fail. In 2007 under 70% of the applicants passed level 4, and under 30% for level one

Content

The questions are mulitple choice and there are Kanji, Japanese grammar, expressions and also vocabulary. The grammar section will rewquire you to know how Japanese nouns and verbs and particles work. Although this may sound obvious, please be aware that the JLPT is written in Japanese writing scripts and not English.

At level 4 you will need to know 100 Kanji Symbols and at level 1 this increases to 1000. The amount of vocabularly you need to learn also increases.

Test Breakdown

Essentially the JLPT at all levels 1-4 is broken down into three major sections, being:

  • Writing and Vocabulary
  • Listening Comprehension
  • Grammar

Obvioulsy the expectations at each level goes up the higher the level you are attempting. At the most basic level, being 4, you are required to know 100 Kanji symbols, 800 words, write basic sentences and converse at a beginner level in Japanese.

Where do you go to sit the JLPT?

As long as a school or University in your city is approved by the Japan Educational Exchanges Services then they can administer the JLPT. For those of you who are actually living in Japan then you will need to contact the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) who administer the test.

Advice On How To Pass

The first thing I want to point out is that the JLPT requires study and discipline to pass. JEES state that for level 4 a student ideally should have done 150 hours study.

Find a study method that suites you are start learning the Kanji and vocabulary lists that are required. You may want to look into online study courses as well.

Summary

Well the main point to take from this artcicle is that the JLPT is not the most simple test but by no means out of anyone’s reach who put in the right preparation. Japan has some of the best Universities in the World and passing the JLPT is the door to getting excepted by a non native Japanese speaker.

If you are however wanting to speak conversational Japanese for a hobby or you are travelling to Japan then I highly recommend that you consider taking an online course, as they will save you a lot of money and time. You can find out more information about the best online Japanese course here: Rocket Japanese Review.

All the best with you studies,

Sayoonara!

Consider This. The Sweden universities system is one of the top academic framework in in Northern Europe. Sweden offers approximately five-hundred masters degree diplomas in the English language, every thing from law to engineering. Courses are set up to meet students needs. One good thing is that foreign students are welcome and aid is also there. Presently the public back universities charge no tuition a practice which is good public relations for the country. Why? Because it makes attendees who would otherwise study someplace else attend university there. As a small fairly isolated country, this is wise to address. Swedish Colleges History Many of the tuition free universities are found in Europe, where this practice of ‘education for all’ is very widespread. One example of a tuition free college is the University of Gothenburg or Karolinska University  -see best-in-class list of colleges, universities in Finland opportunities here.

Other school in Norway and Finland also exist. For instance, located in Finland, the University of Helsinki is one of the best known institutions of higher learning in Finland with dozens of popular subjects to study. Also, a head campus in the capital Oslo, the Norwegian counterpart – University of Oslo – has much to offer as well. Located in beautiful Northern Europe, the University of Oslo is an urban environment and offers degrees in information sciences, business administration and political science . Bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees are offered as part of their education program listings, and a number of the courses are in English. The school is medium-sized, with a total enrollment of over one thousand of students, of which a marked percentage are international students. And just like the school mentioned above, many other tuition free colleges have strong English support due to the large amount of international students. Not all of these academic establishments focus on business though. There is a wide range of degrees and programs offered around the world, including computer science, IT, and engineering degrees. Further, such high quality programs as medicine and neuroscience are offered. In order to participate in free study abroad programs at universities in Norway, be aware that a list of prerequisites awaits you. To apply and attend free study abroad at list of free colleges, universities in Europe – it’s required need to contact the embassy of his or her host country to acquire a student visa. Secondly, make sure to check with the institution regarding any entry exams or grade requirements. All in all, the ambition of attending college shouldn’t be hindered with tuition, and in the case of the many tuition free universities around the world, it doesn’t have to be. Finding out more about these top schools can present wonderful opportunities for you opportunities the fortunate few know about. Camelback Desert Schools serve children from preschool age through middle school age.  Its goal isn’t just to babysit children or even to just teach them.  The goal is to work with children to help them reach their academic and life potential.

Desert Schools

Camelback Desert Schools recognizes that learning starts at an early age.  Early habits can make all the difference to success all the way through college and even throughout a lifetime.  Preschoolers who don’t start positively will struggle through all their years of school.  Bad relationships between the student and school and teachers can result from negative early experiences.  That bad relationship leads to bad results, which creates an even worse experience.  It’s a never ending spiral that will impact a person’s ability to obtain jobs, support themselves and their family, and in general to live.

Learning styles and needs change as children grow.  This is a prime concern for Camelback Desert Schools.  Young children learn in a more dependent way.  This requires more teacher input.  However, older children become more independent.  They want to explore and learn on their own, perhaps in groups, but without constant pushing and pulling from a teacher.  Children are allowed to play and learn on their own, within limits, to fulfill these needs.

Desert Schools

Like many schools, Camelback Desert Schools also has a vigorous athletics and physical education program.  Their facilities are world-class in this regard.  Almost every type of physical activity is offered at the school.  They also offer academic programs in physical fitness and health.  Children thrive in this environment.

Camelback Desert Schools participates in that Mountain Valley Athletic League.  The sports include flag football, and basketball for the boys, as well as girls softball and soccer.  Competition and participation are both important elements in this league.

Camelback Desert Schools offers a summer camp program as well as both before and after school programs for working parents.  The camp includes games and sports, arts and crafts, field trips, nature exploration, and special programs for those who opt into them.

Desert Schools

If you live near Paradise Valley Arizona, consider Camelback.  This desert school is one of the best.

GREENHEAD HIGH SCHOOL

The Greenhead High School is situated in the city of Keighley in West Yorkshire on Greenhead road. It is a multi-cultural high school which has mathematics and computing as its specialties.
